The LIGHT of the UNlovable

~He smelled horrible, the odor of his neglected body causing people to rush by making faces of disgust and making negative and derogatory comments. His eyes were downcast...he rarely looked up. The boy approached him and asked his name, the man mumbled a reply then the boy held out his hand, "Nice to meet you Ray." The man hesitated then thrust his hand into the boys hand his rotten, gaping smile brightly lighting up his face.

~The teen regularly experienced rejection, he was bullied, ridiculed and annoyed most of whom he had contact. No one looked him in the eye or touched him. He knew that people avoided him. He approached the woman and said, "Will YOU hug me?" As she hugged him his smile through his tears was unforgettable.

~The little girl was in a rage. She shrieked and clawed and bit like a trapped animal. I hugged her tighter to keep her from hurting herself. Suddenly she stopped...her body relaxed and she asked me not to ever let her go. The glow of this neglected, needy child unforgettable.

UNlovables? No. Glimmers of light...some of them SHINING so radiantly that we must surely be blind to miss it. They are gifts.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Summer captures my attention like NO other season...kids home, gardening, biking, swimming...enjoying a little down time. Like my dear blog friend from Life Through Reflections I find myself thinking of posts and taking photos in preparation for the next post. It is a real pleasure. Thanks to all of you that visit The Glen from time to time.

I am neglecting the blog once again...we are off for a holiday...kidnapping Hubbie from the continual grind of client demands and meetings. We are all eager to spend some time together without the demands of daily life.

See you soon!

The man whispered, 'God, speak to me,' and a chickadee sang.

But the man did not hear.

So the man yelled, 'God, speak to me!' and the thunder rolled across the sky.

But the man did not listen.

The man looked around and said, 'God, let me see you,' and a star shined brightly.

But the man did not notice.

And the man shouted, 'God, show me a miracle!' and a life was born.

But the man did not know.

So the man cried out in despair, 'Touch me God, and let me know you are here!'

Whereupon God reached down and touched the man.

But the man brushed the butterfly away and walked on.

...Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't packaged the way that you expect.

Theme Thursday - Ball

The ball slowly came to a stop at the feet of the skinny, dirty blonde kid. He froze in fear. He knew the ball belonged to Jim. He knew that Jim and his friends would find a way to taunt and terrorize him simply because the ball brought him into their sights. He slowly bent down and picked up the ball. His first thought was if he threw it back with all his might they would go back to their game. But, deep down...he knew they wouldn't. They never missed the opportunity to hurt him.

Suddenly, anger consumed the kid. A DEEP, dark anger that had been brewing in him for years. All the scenarios that he had created in his mind of his triumphant revenge on Jim flashed before his eyes. He wanted to make Jim hurt and to finally leave him alone once and for all. As Jim approached calling him obscene names and threatening him with his fists the kid dropped the ball and attacked. He fought hard and with every ounce of his being letting all the hurt and fury fuel his body.

He didn't stand a chance. Jim had life long experience at hurting others.

Later that night the skinny kid went to bed with a sense of triumph...he had lost...he had lost badly but he had gone down fighting. He would be okay.

Later that night Jim endured another beating from his father...

Forgive easily, when someone hurts you it is often because they themselves hurt.
