Nana's Roses

When we moved to Killeny Glen, my Nana Boo gifted me with dark pink climbing roses. These were roses  I had watched grow up the trellis' of her home my entire life. We were free to pick them and put them in our hair or use them for various imaginative adventures. Nana ALWAYS had roses cut and in vases around the house for all to enjoy...even just last week roses were on her bookshelf in her sitting room. When the roses are in bloom it is a thing to marvel that really cannot be captured in words or photographs...the color, the smell, the basic yet so complicated depth of their beauty.  These roses were not purchased at a nursery but brought from my grandfather's family home in Illinois to Indiana (Nana's current home) and then to Killeny Glen.

Just as my roses are blooming this June, Nana Boo is fading. At almost 100 years old she tells us she is growing too tired to carry on...I find myself even more drawn to my roses...their beauty, the gift they, and Nana Boo are to me...they cannot last forever just as Nana cannot last forever....but Nana's beauty does not fade.
