All I want for Christmas...

The kids make a wish list of items they would like for Christmas...we divide them into categories: A NUMBER ONE GIFT, a practical gift and a family oriented gift. Each year we are entertained by WHAT the kids list on these forms. Sam is reading and writing this year so he is eager to fill out his list! His NUMBER ONE GIFT that he wants this year???

A PEZ DISPENSER!!!

In case you didn't know PEZ Dispensers are SERIOUS business! People collect them and their our thousands of designs. I looked on ebay just to be curious...it is crazy!

A year ago I would have gotten Sam this one without a thought but being in first grade has pushed him away from Thomas and his friends. (I am sad about that!)

I believe one of these will delight the boy BEYOND words!!! Is it safe to say that he is DEFINITELY going to get a Pez Dispenser this year!?!??!

This week...

The week of Thanksgiving is such fun but SO busy. I am crazy over the various pumpkin recipe's this fall and here is a new cookie favorite. A lovely SOFT baked cookie with rich, buttery icing!

Pumpkin Cookies
1 cup Butter Crisco
1 cup sugar
1 egg
t tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
Cream Crisco and sugar then add egg, and vanilla. Whisk together the dry ingredients then mix well. Bake at 350 degrees about 12 minutes.

Caramel Frosting
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
6 T milk
2 cups powdered sugar
Melt butter and brown sugar then boil 3 minutes. Take off heat and add 6 T milk, bring to a quick boil then sit pan in icy water while stirring. Add powdered sugar to desired consistency.
Frost and ENJOY!!!
(Note: This frosting is delicious on chocolate cake too!)

Thankful Thursday

Look closely at the little things in life that bring you pleasure. Do not take them for granted but embrace them.

Fall Favorites to share

1.) Chili - now this is IMPORTANT...does your chili require kidney beans? At The Glen it does NOT. We are anti-bean! But, it MUST come with corn bread! YUM!

2.) A trip to Kentucky with family. A November tradition only second to Christmas. The leaves through the mountains are awe inspiring!

3.) Pumpkin Waffles Do NOT knock them till you try them! Delicious! A recipe from Meg.

4.) Boots!!! You KNOW gray is the NEW black right? I have to admit I am STILL wearing flip flops despite the cold temps...BUT...I will look forward to wearing these beauties!

5.) A textured, cozy scarf! LOVE THIS! I am QUITE sure that Tanna from The Brick Street Bungalow could have whipped this out while watching one episode of This Old House!

6.) And THEN the piece de la resistance...the COLOR of fall. INCREDIBLE! We pass this street lamp almost nightly and Bob pulled over last night for me to snap this shot. Is it not just...MAGICAL? Standing in the glow of the light I was sure I would be transported to Narnia or Terabithia or at the VERY LEAST...Honah Lee!

What is one of your Fall Favorites??

As far as I am concerned WHO needs gadgets as long as you have plenty of these three things on hand?!?!?!?
